Why Toshiba EID?

Toshiba Electronic Imaging
Division (EID) is a leading Australasian supplier
of document imaging solutions. At Toshiba we
are constantly looking for new ways to improve
the design and manufacturing of our products.
Innovations that use less energy, have fewer
parts and components that can be reused in other
forms after the original product has reached
the end of it’s economic life (EOL). Identifying
and adopting sustainable environmental strategies
has been a long term, ongoing commitment of Toshiba
Corporation. Toshiba was one of the first to
establish an Environment Department and all facilities
manufacturing Toshiba EID products are ISO 14001*
compliant.

Highly resistant to degradation,
the plastic and metal components of cartridges
in a landfill site can last for as long as 1000
years. Toshiba’s cartridge recycling partner
is Close the Loop Limited (CTL), an Australian
company that is leading the world in this specialised
field of resource recovery and reuse. They have
developed a process that takes cartridges, breaks
them up, separates and recovers the metallic component
materials and then blends and reprocesses the various
mixed plastics remaining on site. |

of research chemists is a leader in this field
and continues to evaluate new ways of streamlining
and enhancing their processes.
> Their ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ process is independently audited
and while their operation has achieved ISO 9001 certification they are working
towards ISO 14001 accreditation. |

ago and started then making positive steps to improve
their product and total business ‘environmental
investment‘.
In fact, Toshiba has been developing products, systems and management policies
long before it became popular to be ‘pro environment’.
Toshiba Multi Function Devices (MFD) sold in Australia are engineered to
meet or exceed all current environmental and safety regulations now in
place or proposed around the world. Engineers work closely with Global
Environmental regulations ensuring compliance in every possible way. Our
products and supplies are designed to conserve natural resources and minimise
the use of harmful substances. |

All materials used in Toshiba
MFD equipment can be remade into new products.
Metals, such as aluminium, can be reused again
and again.
Recycling these materials to make new products often uses less energy and
makes better use of our material resources. It also leaves more ‘virgin
materials’ in the ground for future generations. |

consumables including inkjet and laser toner cartridges, drum units and copier
toner containers. Using leading edge technologies and state of the art materials
separation processes, they ensure all Toshiba cartridges are recycled with zero
waste going to landfill. Close the Loop shares our common values and high standards
and is an ideal partner for Toshiba (Australia) Pty Limited.

Sims Group is the largest collector, processor and supplier of recycled
metal, plastics and electronics products in the world. Toshiba has partnered
with Sims to ensure our EOLproducts are handled by a world’s Best
Practice company. Simsmetal, the recycled metal’s division of Sims
Group recycles all Toshiba’s end of life MFD products, recovering
metal, plastics and glass for renewal and reuse in a new product cycle.

Visy Industries “When we as a community effectively reuse finite
resources we are making our world a better place.” Founded in 1948
Visy is one of the world’s largest privately owned packaging and
recycling companies. Visy Recycling established in 1979 collects over
900,000 tonnes of paper and cardboard from over 20,000 businesses. All
of Toshiba’s paper and cardboard packaging is collected and is
returned to use as new and innovative products.
> Landcare Australia
Ltd is the premier community movement for the environment. Landcare was
appointed in 1989 by the Commonwealth Government as an independent not-for-profit
company. Their aim is to raise community awareness about the environment
and to engage the corporate sector in projects that address the environmental
challenges we face every day. Toshiba supports Landcare both in–kind,
and through support for Landcare’s regional projects on the ground
and assisting in developing its practical environmental programs around
the country. One of the key targets for Landcare is combating the Salinity
problem in many of our inland waterways.

Why Green up your office products? |
|

| |
At Toshiba we are constantly
researching, developing and producing environmentally
friendly products. Among many environmental and
engineering challenges facing designers, ENERGY
STAR compliance is one of the basic criteria considered
when new products are created. ENERGY STAR compliant
products reduce the amount of energy consumed by
either automatically switching into a ‘sleep’ mode
when not being used and/or reducing the amount
power used when in ‘standby’ mode. |
