Environmental Concerns

Toshiba and Landcare Australia

Toshiba (Australia) Pty Limited is proud to have recently joined forces with Landcare Australia.

The partnership strengthens Toshiba’s dedication to working towards a better future. The company’s support for Landcare, both in-kind and through support for regional projects on the ground, will assist in developing Landcare’s environmental work around the country.

The Toshiba Group believes that, as a leading manufacturer in a globalising economy, product development, manufacturing, usage and recycling are important initiatives in establishing a sustainable society. As a result, environmental considerations are built into every Toshiba product and process.

Toshiba has contributed more than $10,000 to a unique project that brings together two of Australia's most iconic and prolific volunteer community networks - Landcare and Surf Lifesaving.

The West Moreton Landcare Group recently joined forces with surf lifesavers from south-east Queensland to help repair a local creek badly affected by salinity.

The project was launched in Marburg, west of Brisbane, on 15th May 2006- to celebrate Natural Resources Week. Restoration works saw more than 2000 trees established over two hectares, and took place on 2nd September.

Toshiba also provided funding for Manning Landcare to host an Innovative Farmers Forum in Gloucester on 27th May 2006.

The key presenter for the day was Peter Andrews, who has spent twenty years developing his Natural Sequence Farming (NSF) approach, which is now being trialled in many places around Australia. NSF is a rural landscape management technique aimed at restoring natural water cycles that allow the land to flourish despite drought conditions.

Saving the planet is everyone's responsibility

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
Saving the planet is everyone's responsibility. Today's copier manufacturers are doing more and more to ensure that their products are environmentally safe. You can help by being more environmentally aware when making your next purchase.

Look closely before you commit. All Toshiba copiers recycling and facsimile sold in Australia and New Zealand are engineered to meet and exceed all current and foreseeable environmental and safety regulations now in place or proposed around the world. Our copiers and supplies are designed to conserve natural resources and minimize the use of harmful substances. But responsibility should not stop with the manufacturer. As a buyer you, too, need to be environmentally aware. Ask about ozone emissions, noise levels, paper recycling and supplies recycling.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPATIBILITY
Long before it was popular to be "pro environment," Toshiba was developing products, systems and management policies to deal with this important issue. In 1989, for example, Toshiba created a special charter titled, "Basic Regulations for an Environment Research and Development Centre staffed by more than 100 researchers, technicians and engineers. In 1991, Toshiba established a Global Environmental Committee to identify and focus on environmental concerns around the world. This committee consists of corporate executives who continually strive to develop new products with the environment in mind.

Toshiba cares about the world; in which we live

ENERGY USAGE
Smart shoppers who value high performance at a low cost will be concerned about energy usage. By buying an environmentally friendly copier or fax they will save on electricity, cut paper costs, reduce waste, and even increase productivity. Because they care about the world in which we live, they'll enjoy the extra satisfaction of owning an environmentally superior product.

OZONE
Ozone appears naturally in the earth's atmosphere as a result of electrical discharges in the air.
For example, during thunderstorms and by the ultraviolet light of the sun. A comparatively small amount of ozone is produced by all electrical discharges, including those from household or office appliances.

All copiers using the electrostatic principle generate ozone. Toshiba's State-of-the-Art technology and dedication to research and development have minimized the system-inherent ozone. Any ozone still generated is eliminated almost completely by efficient ozone filters.

NOISE
While there is no current regulation regarding noise levels, we recognize that there's no greater nuisance in the work environment. As a matter of fact, noise has been linked to job stress.

All Toshiba copiers are designed to contribute to a lownoise environment. Energy Saver features put the unit in standby mode, reducing noise and saving energy.

PAPER RECYCLING
Increased environmental awareness has resulted in extensive use of recycled paper. While improvements are being made daily, there are many paper grades that do not comply with the recommendations of copier manufacturers. Some recycled papers have extremely short fibres or higher resin content. So, be sure to ask questions about the paper you buy.

Poor quality paper can affect wear and tear on your copier. As a result, misfeeds can become more frequent or service may be required more often. Toshiba continues to actively test and evaluate recycled paper to come up with one specifically designed and recommended for the efficient operation of Toshiba Copiers.
